New earthquake in Romania, less than two hours after the biggest earthquake in the last year

A new earthquake, with a magnitude of 3.3, occurred Thursday evening in Romania, in Dobrogea, Tulcea county, less than two hours after the earthquake in Vrancea, the strongest produced this year.

“On February 26, 2026 at 20:52:46 (Romanian local time), a weak earthquake with a magnitude of 3.3 ml occurred in Dobrogea, Tulcea, at a depth of 3.0 km,” the National Research and Development Institute for Earth Physics reported.

According to the institution, the earthquake occurred near the following cities:

  • 48 km south of Tulcea
  • 62 km north of Constanta
  • 69 km south of Izmail
  • 80 km southeast of Brăila
  • 93 km southeast of Galati

The Dobrogea earthquake occurred less than two hours after the magnitude 4.5 earthquake recorded in the Vrancea seismic zone, the strongest produced in Romania since the beginning of this year.
