In March, gardeners are actively preparing seedlings for the warm season. The sooner the pepper germinates, the faster strong seedlings and the future harvest will appear. Spring germination helps speed up germination and select strong seeds before planting in the ground.
Pepper seeds have a dense shell, which makes it difficult for water and air to quickly access the embryo. This means that under normal conditions, seedlings may appear slowly – sometimes up to two weeks or longer.
Pre-treatment of seeds – soaking and germination – accelerates their germination and helps to obtain strong, uniform seedlings. This is especially important at the beginning of the season, when gardeners are actively preparing for planting in March and April.
Experienced summer residents use their secrets, which help them germinate seeds year after year. One of the most popular natural methods is to soak the seeds in an infusion of tea (such as chamomile or mild black). This method slightly softens the shells and has a mild antibacterial effect, which prevents rotting at the initial stage.
How to prepare an infusion for germinating pepper seeds:
- Brew a weak infusion of black tea or chamomile and cool to room temperature.
- Immerse the seeds for 8–12 hours.
- Then proceed to germination in a warm, humid environment or directly to sowing. This method is completely natural and safe for the entire subsequent life of the plant.
In order for the seeds to “start” growth faster, it is important to provide not only soaking liquid, but also stable heat, humidity and moderate air access. It is this combination that allows plants to wake up after winter dormancy faster and more actively.
