The Afghan army announced on Thursday that it had seized several Pakistani army posts, claiming it was retaliation for Pakistani attacks. The Pakistani armed forces responded with fire to this “unjustified” – in their opinion – attack, Reuters and AFP reported.

The spokesman for the Afghan army in the east of the country, Wahidullah Mohammadi, reported on the X platform that “large-scale offensive operations” were carried out against Pakistani forces in response to the earlier bombing of Nangarhar and Paktia provinces by Pakistani forces.
Afghan forces fired at posts in the mountainous areas of northwestern Pakistan and there was a two-hour exchange of fire, Pakistani officials told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
Pakistan's information ministry said Pakistani forces responded to this “unjustified fire” from Afghan forces at various points along the border and the response was “immediate and effective.”
In the first half of the week, the Taliban warned that it would provide an “appropriate and proportionate response” to Pakistan's air attacks last weekend.
The Pakistani authorities claimed that the camps of the Pakistani Taliban (Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan – TTP) and Islamic State in the Khorasan province in eastern Afghanistan were attacked. According to Islamabad, TTP leaders are planning attacks in Pakistan from Afghan territory, which Kabul denies. (PAP)
