Specialists from the Krasnoyarsk Rosselkhoznadzor identified dangerous quarantine pests in batches of grapes and peppers.
According to the department, At the temporary storage warehouse “Agroterminal-Customs”, quarantine phytosanitary control was carried out on batches of grapes and peppers with a total weight of 5760 kg imported from China. Selected samples were sent for research to the laboratory of the Krasnoyarsk branch of the Federal State Budgetary Institution “TsK APK”. As a result, in peppers experts discovered Western flower thrips, and in grapes – Comstock's mealybug.
“Quarantine facilities are safe for people, but can destroy up to 80% of agricultural crops. In order to prevent the threat of harm to agriculture and the economy of the region, a person who imported products infected with a dangerous pest was issued a notice of the need to take phytosanitary measures. Fruits and vegetables were treated with approved drugs that are safe for humans,” told in the regional Rosselkhoznadzor.
The department recalled that hComstock grasshopper is a sucking pest that affects more than 600 plant species, including fruit trees, berry bushes, ornamental crops, and even houseplants. It is very insidious as it multiplies quickly and can cause serious damage. Western flower thrips is a microscopic pest that feeds on plant sap, causing it to weaken and become deformed. It is characterized by high fertility and the ability to spread quickly, especially in greenhouse conditions.
