In a letter addressed to the Prime Minister, President Karol Nawrocki presented his position on the ETS and ETS2, which is to come into force in 2028. He stated that he expected the government to adopt a position that would fully protect Poles against further consequences of the EU's climate policy. The letter is related to the European Council summit on the ECJ, which will take place on Thursday, March 19.

Before Tuesday's government meeting, Tusk said that the problem of energy prices would be the main topic of the EU summit.

– PiS politicians are flexing their muscles and pretending that they have great ideas and that they are determined and effective in the fight for cheap energy, and we increasingly hear calls to immediately leave European agreements, including the ECJ – said Tusk.

He also quoted the statement of former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki from 2023, who then assessed that leaving the ECJ was not possible under European law. – This is proposed by those who have no knowledge or bad will in this matter – quoted the head of government.

The Prime Minister also recalled the statement of the leader of the Confederation, Sławomir Mentzen, who stated that: “If we look at the relationship with the European Union, Tusk is more assertive than Morawiecki.” – This is what it looks like when it comes not to talking, but to doing, and I fully agree with this opinion – Tusk noted.

According to the Prime Minister, the Polish government has carried out many activities to “disarm ETS1” and to transform thinking about energy prices in the discussion about ETS2. – Poland will demand specifically Polish solutions to respect our situation, in which, among others, The ETS is a very important and negatively decisive factor when it comes to energy prices, he assured.

The president writes to the prime minister. “It's time to move away from the ETS system”

President Karol Nawrocki, in a letter addressed to Prime Minister Donald Tusk, stated that he expects the government to adopt a position that will fully protect Poles against further consequences of climate policy. According to the president, the most rational solution would be to abandon the ETS system.

Tusk: On Wednesday, we will present the government's position on the future of energy in Poland

On Wednesday, during the PowerConnect conference in Gdańsk, the government will present its position on the future of energy in Poland, announced Prime Minister Donald Tusk. He added that Poland must develop renewable energy sources, with particular emphasis on wind energy, complemented by the development of nuclear energy.

On Tuesday, before the government meeting, Tusk, referring to critics of energy from Renewable Energy Sources (RES), announced that they will be further developed in Poland – with particular emphasis on wind energy. He emphasized that it is a safe, cheap and distributed energy source that must be supplemented with the development of nuclear energy.

– We really opened this chapter with a bang. We have already made the appropriate decisions. Tomorrow in Gdańsk at PowerConnect, this is a great meeting devoted to energy, together with the Minister (of Energy Miłosz) Motyka and the Minister (of State Assets Wojciech) Balczun we will (…) discuss and present the position of the Polish government on the future of energy in Poland – he said.

As he emphasized, the government will act in the energy sphere “practically, not ideologically” and its main goal is “available energy, as cheap as possible, safe from the point of view of geopolitics.”

– When it comes to the so-called renewable energy sources, another quote from our opponents, I want to make you and all skeptics aware that renewable energy sources, after all, are the most sovereign source of energy for Poland. We will not extract oil from Polish deposits. Oil will always be either Russian or Arab, and the war in Iran shows very clearly how dangerous dependence on external energy supplies can be, he emphasized.

On Monday, PiS vice-president Przemysław Czarnek announced the submission of a draft resolution to the Sejm, which calls on Prime Minister Donald Tusk to present a plan for leaving the EU ETS within 14 days. According to Czarnek, leaving the ETS would reduce energy bills by several dozen percent.

Czarnek initiated the slogan “RES-sroze” in the public debate, shouting it at the beginning of March during the Law and Justice convention, where the party presented him as a candidate for prime minister in the next parliamentary elections. (PAP)
