During his visit to Kiev, the Speaker of the Sejm met with President Volodymyr Zelensky and the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Ruslan Stefanchuk. On Tuesday, on the fourth anniversary of Russian aggression, Czarzasty appeared in the Verkhovna Rada. The Marshal said he bowed to those who died in defense of an independent Ukraine and condemned Vladimir Putin “as a criminal.” He also stated that accession to the EU would be an important security guarantee for Ukraine and that Poland supported these aspirations.

— I think there will be a strong effect of all this. I am proud not because I spoke, but I am proud that only the representative of Poland spoke today in the Verkhovna Rada. From what I see in the media, both Polish and foreign, it made an impression. Not because of how it was said, but because of what was said – Czarzasty said at a press conference summarizing the visit.

In turn, Vice-Marshal Monika Wielichowska added that at every meeting in Kiev the topic of Polish participation in the reconstruction of Ukraine after the war came up. She also announced that cooperation between the parliaments of both countries would accelerate in the near future.

Marshal Czarzasty on Ukraine's accession to the EU

— We will work to help Ukraine start major work on accession to the European Union as soon as possible. We know perfectly well that security does not end with Poland. We would like to develop Ukraine, we will be happy to welcome Ukraine to the European Union and we will do everything to make this happen as soon as possible, Wielichowska declared.

In this context, Czarzasty criticized “various complaints about whether Ukraine should join the European Union or not.” — There are no complaints. Ukraine must join the EU. We have to do this. There's no point in moaning. We just need to move forward on this matter. This visit also gave me such confidence, he said.

Earlier, the Marshal took part in the Yalta European Strategy (YES) conference.

Before returning to Poland, Czarzasty and Wielichowska still have a meeting planned with Prime Minister Julia Swyrydenko. Czarzasty said that he had “specific issues to deal with for Polish business – both state and private” at this meeting.
