Krasnoyarsk surgeons performed a complex operation to remove a tumor of the head of the pancreas

A complex operation was performed at the Krasnoyarsk Regional Clinical Hospital to remove a malignant tumor from the head of the pancreas. The press service of the institution reported this.

Due to the fact that the abdominal organs in this area are adjacent to each other so tightly that they form a single complex, it is technically impossible to remove only the tumor. Therefore, doctors had to excise the entire affected organ complex: the head of the pancreas, part of the stomach, duodenum, common bile duct and gallbladder.

Gastropancreatoduodenal resection (GPDR) is one of the most difficult interventions in abdominal surgery.

As operating surgeon Pavel Sobolev said, such interventions are carried out regularly in the hospital – this is done by surgeons specializing in oncology of the hepatopancreatoduodenal zone. According to him, after such operations, patients usually do not experience severe discomfort and eventually return to their normal lives.

Now the woman feels well, she has rehabilitation ahead, which will take from four to six months.
