Bomb attack in Moscow: One police officer killed, two others injured after man detonates explosive device

Deadly explosion in central Moscow: one policeman was killed and two injured after an attacker detonated an explosive device near their patrol, the Russian Interior Ministry said.

The terrorist attack took place in the square of the Savyolovsky station, one of the main railway junctions of the capital.
According to the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the attacker approached the police officers on patrol and detonated the explosive device. The author died on the spot.
Images published by local media show the police car with its windows broken, not on fire, next to the railway lines. The area was immediately isolated, and several ambulances intervened on the scene, writes theguardian.
Initially, the authorities announced that the perpetrator fled, but after analyzing the surveillance images, it was confirmed that he died as a result of the explosion.
The ministry did not provide details on the type of device or the attacker's motives.
Russia's Investigative Committee opened a criminal case for attempted murder of a public order officer and illegal possession of explosive devices.
In recent months, there have been several attacks on Russian military officials.
In December 2025, two policemen were killed in an explosion in southern Moscow, close to where a Russian general had been killed a few days earlier.
Earlier this month, a senior Russian military intelligence officer was shot and wounded in an attack that Russian authorities blamed on Kiev.
