A unique exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of one of the leading research institutes has opened in Zelenogorsk / Society news of Krasnoyarsk and the Krasnoyarsk Territory / Newslab.Ru

An exhibition from the series “Creators of the Atomic Age” opened at the Zelenogorsk Museum and Exhibition Center, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the High-Tech Research Institute of Inorganic Materials (VNIINM) and the founder of the national school of materials science, Academician Andrei Anatolyevich Bochvar.
Andrey Anatolyevich Bochvar headed VNIINM for more than 30 years. The exhibition tells the biography of an outstanding metallurgist who created a new scientific direction – nuclear metallurgy, and also displays the range of scientific and organizational problems that had to be solved within the framework of the USSR Atomic Project and the use of nuclear energy for peaceful and military purposes.
The exhibition includes over 140 exhibits and photographs. Each section is accompanied by a short film about the main stages of A. A. Bochvar’s life and events related to the institute.
The exhibition presents documents from the Archive Fund of the Russian Federation, memorial items from federal, private and departmental collections.
The scientific part immerses you in the world of inorganic chemistry and materials science, includes laboratory microscopes, samples of materials and developments of VNIINM. And the interactive game “Institute of the Future” invites participants to follow the path of a scientist from the beginning of the creation of the institute to the present day and test their knowledge of the nuclear industry.
At the opening, Sergei Filimonov, General Director of PA Electrochemical Plant JSC, deputy of the Legislative Assembly of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, noted that the exhibition would be of interest to both the older generation and young people, who should know about the legendary personalities who were the heroes of the USSR Atomic Project.
“The personality of Academician Bochvar is a vivid example of dedication, faith in the impossible and the greatness of the country for the benefit of which he lived and worked. I invite all residents of Zelenogorsk, Zaozerny, Borodino and the entire Rybinsk region,” said Sergei Filimonov.
The exhibition “Creators of the Atomic Age: Academician A. A. Bochvar” is available for viewing at the Zelenogorsk IEC until April 25, 2026. And in the future, Zelenogorsk residents will have an exhibition dedicated to Yuliy Borisovich Khariton.
