The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Oana Ţoiu, will not participate on Monday, February 23, in the plenary of the Senate, in the debate of the simple motion formulated by the Opposition against him, because of an external agenda.

Țoiu is in Bruzelles, at the meeting of foreign ministers from the European Union (Foreign Affairs Council), where two essential topics for Romania are being discussed: the sanctions against Russia and the European response to disinformation campaigns.

However, Oana Țoiu wanted to respond through a message on Facebook to the signatories of the simple motion that will be debated and voted on Monday in the Senate.

“The motion against me is written by Mr. Ninel Peia, who after being voted in changed his party and, of course, signed by Mr. Petrișor Peiu, who said publicly that they cannot criticize Romanians who take pictures with Putin and that they cannot say that this is not Romania's position. The delimitation of Putin, from your perspective, is “a diplomatic blunder”. They would probably happily sit with Vladimir Putin in the picture now, we don't. What are they trying to do? gentlemen is that Romania is not represented at the ministerial level in this meeting. So they copied their own motion on Mercosur, which they submitted to overlap the Foreign Affairs Council”Toiu wrote.

PACE – Last week, Romania first submitted a simple motion against Oana Țoiu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The motion is supported by the AUR parliamentary group and concerns the way in which Minister Oana Țoiu represented Romania in the European decision-making process regarding the EU-MERCOSUR Agreement.

The simple motion is titled “Progressive diplomacy with hashtags has put Romania's agriculture at risk. Oana Țoiu says 'yes' to others and 'no' to her own citizens”.

According to the initiators, supporting the MERCOSUR agreement “it was not a technical error and it was not a procedural escape, but a political option assumed, with deep and negative economic effects for Romania”.

The document also states that “Romanian farmers are exposed to unfair competition from products from countries that do not respect the same environmental standards, food safety and production costs imposed on Romanian farmers”. The initiators of this approach also criticize the fact that “this decision was taken without interministerial consultation THE REAL” and that “the Minister of Agriculture publicly declared that he was not consulted in establishing Romania's position”.

The simple motion will be debated and voted on in the Senate plenary, starting at 4:00 p.m.
