An explosion injured seven Ukrainian police officers in the city of Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine on Monday, two of them seriously, the authorities announced, two days after a policewoman was killed in a similar incident in Lviv (northwest), an incident that Kiev denounced as a “terrorist attack”, reports AFP.
On social media, the head of Ukraine's national police, Ivan Vighivski, said Monday's blast occurred at 18:10 local time (16:10 GMT) at a disused gas station in Mykolaiv, where law enforcement officers had parked their vehicles. Of the seven wounded officers, two are in serious condition, and doctors are fighting for their lives, Vighivski added.
Without giving details about the origin of the explosion, he denounced it as a “targeted attack” by the “enemy” to kill Ukrainian police officers and “destabilize the country” which is at war with Russia. “The other day, in Lviv, there was a terrorist attack against some police officers. It's not a coincidence,” he declared.
For his part, President Volodymyr Zelensky wrote on X that “all the circumstances” of the Mikolaiv incident are being clarified, “including the possibility of a terrorist attack.”

Also on Monday, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klimenko, accused the Russian security services of being behind the attack from Saturday night to Sunday in Lviv, resulting in the death of a 23-year-old policewoman and the injury of more than 20 other law enforcement officers, informs Agerpres.
Klimenko stated that the Russian security recruits Ukrainian citizens through social networks and promises them important earnings if they get involved in committing attacks.
“Most of the time, the Russian Federation uses the citizens of our country for these attacks, both for the preparation of the attacks and for their implementation. The act of terrorism that took place in Lviv proves that this tactic has been used and will continue to be used, through Telegram channels, through anonymous chats, game applications. Citizens are offered money for arsonists, for the placement of homemade bombs, for obtaining information about the critical infrastructure and for obtaining information about the law enforcement officers”, said the minister.
For his part, the deputy of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), Ivan Rudnytsky, confirmed that the woman who committed the bomb attack in Lviv agreed to resort to this gesture in exchange for a sum of 2,000 dollars. The money was promised to him following some discussions on Telegram, but without coming into their possession.
“A woman from the Rivne region came to Lviv, where she was tasked by a person from Russia to buy and make these homemade bombs. Around 00:10, she came out of the apartment where she was staying, approached the trash can, where she left the device. Then, she called the one in Russia and left the location. At the same time, another woman, young, from the Kharkiv region, who is only 18 years old, recently, he called the Police Emergency Service 102 and reported that a theft was being committed at that address and the police intervened immediately, and the first explosive device arrived at the scene. When other police teams arrived, a second explosion occurred. Unfortunately, a female police officer died,” said the SBU official.
The woman who committed the attack was caught near the border with Poland, having her passport on her. Also, the 18-year-old woman who called the Police dispatcher was detained in Kharkiv and taken to Lviv for questioning.
