The nation deserves the SAFE program; Poland will be its biggest beneficiary; I am shocked that today's opposition is looking for loopholes, said Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski in an interview for “Newsweek”.

Sikorski emphasized that he could admit that some of the purchases made by the Minister of Defense in the PiS government, Mariusz Błaszczak, were late, but right. Referring to the K2 tanks from South Korea. stated that “we do not criticize this purchase.” “However, if the peak of PiS patriotism was the purchase of Korean tanks for a 6% loan, why is strengthening Polish factories and purchasing Polish equipment on a 3% loan with a 10-year grace period being Germany's footstool?” – the minister wonders. “There are limits to my tolerance for stupidity,” he added. “I believe that the nation deserves SAFE,” he emphasized in an interview with the weekly.
Speaking about President Karol Nawrocki's potential veto of the SAFE fund bill, Sikorski said that if this happens, it means that the president is “following stupid and anti-military orders from Nowogrodzka Street.” He added that Americans support SAFE, so the presumption that the veto “will appeal to American sponsors” because SAFE has European preferences is false, because Americans also support SAFE.
As the head of Polish diplomacy added, in any case, SAFE will enter into force, and the project proposals submitted by Polish military personnel, which are to be financed under this instrument, have already been adopted by the European Commission and approved by the EU Council. “The president will be asked to sign an act on the creation of a SAFE fund – parallel to the Armed Forces Support Fund. (…) Patriotism must not only be on one's lips. Patriotism must be shown precisely when it involves the discomfort of opposing the person who promoted the person,” said Radosław Sikorski. (PAP)
