Barcelona comes after two consecutive defeats
Hansi Flick's side are currently second in La Liga, two lengths behind arch-rivals and also league leaders Real Madrid.
The Catalans lost the top of the standings in the previous round, following the defeat they suffered at Girona's ground, score 1-2, a match that recorded Barcelona's second consecutive failure in all competitions, this after the Blaugrana had lost to Atletico Madrid, in the first leg of the King's Cup semi-finals, an incredible 0-4 at the Metropolitano.
Even so, the reigning champion of La Liga has the opportunity to return to the top position in Spain. All the hosts have to do today is win the match against Levante, given that Arbeloa's “galacticos” dropped three important points on Saturday evening, 1-2 to Osasuna.
“Les granotes” seem doomed to relegation this season
On the other hand, the situation is much more dramatic. After the first 24 games, Levante have accumulated only 18 points, and at the moment, the team prepared by Luis Castro occupies the penultimate position in the standings, being seven lengths away from Elche, the first team above the red line.
The vulnerable point of the “frogs” this season is obviously the defense, Levante being the team that scored the most goals in the championship, 41 in number.
However, there are some results recorded in 2026 that give Luis Castro hope. Since the beginning of the year, the group from Valencia managed to beat Sevilla (3-0) and Elche (3-2) and, more than that, kept Atletico Madrid in check (0-0).
However, the last three matches were not as happy, Levante succumbing to Athletic Bilbao (2-4), Villarreal (0-1) and against local rival Valencia (0-2).
The Catalans prevailed in the championship round, after Levante led 2-0
The first direct duel between the two teams in the current season took place last summer, on August 23, 2025 to be exact, and then Barcelona eventually won at the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia, 3-2, after the hosts led 2-0 at half-time.
Ivan Romero opened the scoreboard in the 15th minute of the meeting, and veteran Jose Morales doubled the advantage of the “frogs” in extra time of the first half, from the penalty.
In the second act, however, Hansi Flick's team had a sensational comeback, managing to turn the tide of the game and leave Valencia victorious, thanks to the successes signed by Pedri (49') and Ferran Torres (52'), respectively Unai Elgezabal's own goal in the first additional minute of the match.
