Is an old, leaky bucket sitting idle in the shed gathering dust? Don't rush to throw it away! News agency EAOMedia shares a trick on how to turn rusty trash into a useful thing for the garden.
Old buckets are not trash, but a real boon for garden beds. They make convenient containers for growing vegetables, flowers or even berries. This is much cheaper than store-bought pots, plus reuse is a real benefit for your wallet and nature.
Take an old bucket and rinse it well to remove dirt and rust. Place small pebbles or broken bricks at the bottom to drain water, and soil with compost on top. Suitable for tomatoes, peppers, strawberries or greens. Place in a sunny place and water as usual. If there are no holes, drill a couple of holes in the bottom to prevent the roots from rotting.
Such a bucket turns into a ready-made mini-vegetable garden: the plants are comfortable, and you don’t have to spend money on pots. If the weather is capricious, then the buckets can be easily rearranged, and the harvest is no worse than from the garden.
Make sure there are no chemicals or paint left in the bucket – this will harm the plants. If the rust is severe, it is better to take another one so that it does not fall apart. And don’t pour it in like with a hose—excess water should drain away.
