Selymes, the current coach of Politehnica Iași in League 2 and former member of the Golden Generation, spoke about the impact Mircea Lucescu can have and the importance of his health for the team's success.
Tibor Selymes, on the return of Mircea Lucescu: “He can make a beautiful figure”
With over 40 caps for the national team, Selymes said:
“This is really very, very good news, that he will coach the team. Nea Mircea must be healthy and I pray to God for him, to be healthy, because that is the most important thing. As he knows Turkish and Romanian football, he is a coach who can make a good impression in Turkey. I'll be there too, our whole generation will go to the match, to be with the national team. I wish with all my heart that we pass that dam.
It will be difficult, because Turkey has a good team, they play in Beşiktaş, it will be an incendiary atmosphere, but our children must realize that we can and must work for this.”
Tibor Selymes, about Poli Iasi: “We have to beat Dumbrăvița”
Politehnica Iași had a great start to 2026, winning the first official match of the year in League 2, 2-0 against Olimpia Satu Mare. The technician analyzed the match and talked about the team's next goal.
“I had an extremely difficult match, I knew what was going to follow on this pitch, only and only fight, that there was nothing else we could do. I entered the match hard, like a diesel engine that warmed up in the first 15-20 minutes. Then, I was OK throughout the match. I said: the attitude, the commitment, the organization of the game, this is where the difference was made. I am satisfied.
From the outside you can see that the pitch has held up well. But when you go and step on the grass and find you can barely walk, it's not easy to run for 90 minutes. The boys held on. It was our first match of the year on some kind of grass after working on synthetic. It's hard to switch from synthetic to grass.
I started with Tiehi, because he is more massive, more fighting, and Camara had a little contact. We have to play in Dumbrăvița, in a match on the same pitch, smaller than ours. We also have a problem, Inglada will be absent, he has four yellow cards, it will be more difficult”, said Selymes after the victory with Satu Mare.
