US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that his predecessor Barack Obama disclosed “classified information” when he jokingly suggested in a podcast that aliens exist, writes AFP.

“He disclosed classified information, he shouldn't have,” said Donald Trump, when asked on the presidential plane about Barack Obama's recent claims, which have revived conspiracy theories on the subject.

“I don't know if there is or not,” but the former Democratic president “made a big mistake,” continued Donald Trump, who is a frequent critic of Obama.

Former President Barack Obama issued a message on Sunday clarifying recent claims about the existence of extraterrestrials, after a podcast response sparked global speculation, according to The Guardian.

Barack Obama reacted on Instagram on Sunday after an excerpt of an interview with Brian Tyler Cohen went viral on the Internet. Asked if aliens are real, the former president replied: “They're real, but I haven't seen them.”

He continued, “They are not being held at Area 51. There is no underground facility unless there is an enormous conspiracy and they hid it from the President of the United States.”

His statements were picked up by well-known publications from all over the world, such as Time magazine. He later returned with details on Instagram: “I tried to keep in the spirit of the quick round, but since it got attention, let me clarify. Statistically, the universe is so vast that the chances of life there are high.”

Obama pointed out that the vast distances between solar systems make visits unlikely: “During my presidency I have seen no evidence that aliens have made contact with us. Seriously!”.
