The president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, was received on Friday in the audience by Pope Leon XIV, with whom he spoke about peace, faith and European aspirations, and the Sovereign Pontiff gave him assurances that Moldova is “seen and heard,” informs News.ro.

“Today I had the honor to meet Pope Leon XIV. We talked about peace, about the faith that keeps us together and about our country's path for a better life,” wrote Maia Sandu on Facebook.

The head of state says that he spoke to the Pope about the goodness and generosity of the Moldovans, who received the Ukrainian refugees, about the attachment to the Christian values ​​and about the way people managed to keep their faith alive even in difficult times, “when the Soviet regime deported priests and transform the churches.”

“We also talked about how, with a war in the border, we knew how to show compassion and solidarity. This is how we became known as a small country, with a big heart. Faith and humanity keep our resistant and worthy nation,” wrote Maia Sandu, who gives assurances that he received an optimistic message from the Vatican. “The sanctity assured me that Moldova is seen, that Moldova is heard. With the will of God and through our work, we will make a future in dignity and peace, in the great European family,” said Maia Sandu.

President Maia Sandu had an intense diplomatic activity this week. On Tuesday, she addressed the European Parliament, who then voted a favorable resolution to accelerate Moldova's accession to the EU, and on Wednesday met in Rome with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and the president of the Italian Senate.
