PSD President Sorin Grindeanu stated, on Digi24, that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan delayed the adoption of the economic recovery package proposed by the Social Democrats, which could have avoided Romania entering a technical recession.
Sorin Grindeanu estimated that next week the Government could adopt the emergency ordinances regarding the reform of the administration, respectively the economic recovery measures. However, he declared himself dissatisfied that the economic recovery package was finalized by the PSD as early as September, and its adoption was unacceptably delayed for a long time.
“If the economic recovery packages were applied faster, maybe we would not have entered a technical recession”, commented Sorin Grindeanu.

“Govern not just for billionaires”
The leader of the Social Democrats praised the increase in financial discipline under Alexandru Nazare's tenure as finance minister, but said that recovery measures needed to be taken more quickly.
“He came with a desire more than necessary to cut, to throw people out. The population was scared, and consumption dropped drastically. The alternative was to remain the financial discipline that I praise at Nazare, and from September, after the absolutely necessary recalculations through package 1, in September there had to be an economic relaunch”, said Grindeanu.
He claimed that, in the discussions held in the coalition, there was also talk of reducing the salaries of the budget workers, but the PSD opposed it. “We would have talked about cuts to doctors, to teachers (…) The proposal from the Government was to reduce salaries in the budget sector by 10%,” said the social democrat.
He mentioned that the PSD conditions the support of the 2026 budget on the adoption of the social solidarity package.
“The purchasing power of Romanians has decreased. When this government came, inflation was 5%, now we are at 10%. These things are most visible to those with low incomes. That is why PSD comes with the one-off payment system for pensioners. I had a first discussion with the Prime Minister today and they will continue. The total amount is up to 4 billion. It is a targeted effort that the Government will have to make towards vulnerable people”, said the Pedestist.
He added that discussions on this topic will continue in the coalition. “You govern in this country not only for billionaires, you also govern for pensioners and those with low salaries,” Grindeanu concluded.
