A Ukrainian poultry farmer, the author of the YouTube channel “Rodinne Podvirya”, told us what to feed chickens in February so that they actively lay eggs.
“Winter is a difficult period for poultry, so a proper diet is of great importance. We share what we use on our farm, without unnecessary theory – only practice and our own observations,” the poultry farmer noted.
He recommended giving chickens sprouted wheat in February during frosts.
Preparation of a mixture of sprouted grains
- Pour 6–7 kg of grain into a container. Use wheat or grain mixture.
- Fill the grain with warm, but not hot water. Stir the grain.
- Add more water to allow for swelling. Place the container in a warm place and leave until the morning so that the water is completely absorbed. In the morning, lightly sprinkle the grain with your hands to saturate it with oxygen.
- Transfer the grain to another container – divide into two parts if necessary. Wait until the grains germinate – this will take about three days.

“Our chickens lay eggs – [яйца] there’s food for both us and the children,” the poultry farmer summed up.
