Non-bank loans in Poland. Stable growth and caution of companies


The value of loans granted in January 2026 amounted to PLN 1.93 billion, which means an increase of 2%. compared to December and by 22.4 percent on an annual basis.

Jolanta Pytel, CRIF expert, notes that January is traditionally characterized by fewer liabilities after the holiday season, although this year the correction was minimal.
“In the annual perspective, we see a stable increase in the value of financing granted,” he emphasizes.
Loans as an occasional solution
According to ZPF and CRIF data, Poles use loans mainly sporadically. As much as 44 percent active borrowers incur liabilities only once a year, and as the frequency of using this product increases, the share of such people in the market structure decreases.
Agnieszka Kozioł, Director of the ZPF Research and Analysis Department, draws attention to the positive aspect of this trend.

“Only a small percentage of borrowers use financing regularly throughout the year, confirming that this product is predominantly incidental rather than permanent” – he explains.
Poles reach for loans. More and more every year
The average loan amount granted in January was PLN 4,492, which means an increase of 2.4%. compared to December and by 12.5 percent year to year. Experts indicate that this increase is related to the real increase in wages in Poland.
Despite the growing demand for financing, lending institutions remain highly selective. The application rejection rate in January remained close to 80 percent.
Jolanta Pytel notes that the sector “does not seek growth at any cost, but focuses on building a high-quality portfolio and timely repayments.”

The report also shows that the share of new customers in the market was 9 percent, which suggests that loan companies mainly serve people with a known credit historythat had previously repaid their liabilities.
