The chief architect of the Krasnoyarsk Territory said whether it is possible to cancel the construction of the cathedral on Strelka

Chief Architect of the Krasnoyarsk Territory Konstantin Shumov explained why the discussion at the Town Planning Council, initiated by the mayor of the city, cannot cancel the construction of the cathedral on Strelka.

Answering a question from journalists during a press conference in the Krasnoyarsk diocese, he noted that the Town Planning Council is an advisory body with the right to make recommendations. His decisions cannot replace the expert opinion.

“In general, we have always been supporters of the fact that capital construction projects or works of architecture that are significant in all respects should be discussed as openly as possible. Therefore, public hearings were held repeatedly, design solutions were published, we answered emerging questions from citizens and members of professional communities,” emphasized the chief architect of the region.

Konstantin Shumov also expressed confidence that the project will easily receive a construction permit from the Krasnoyarsk Department of Architecture.

“Let me remind you that recently the legislation introduced a requirement to coordinate the architectural and urban design with municipal authorities <...>. This remains to be done, but given our partnership in the design process, everyone knows exactly what it will be about. In this case, this is a copy of a work of architecture from the mid-19th century as close as possible to the original. It is obvious that today it is impossible to establish strict requirements for works of architecture of the mid-19th century in these architectural and urban planning requirements. Therefore, I believe that this will be a professional, open, friendly conversation, and a positive conclusion will be reached,” he shared.

In addition, the Honored Architect of Russia commented on concerns about the prospects for improving the embankment. He cited the Assumption Monastery as a successful example.

“At one time we made a design decision for the improvement of the embankment near the monastery. Today, in our opinion, this is one of the most beautifully landscaped embankments. Although very interesting events took place when at first it became a place of pilgrimage for lovers of not entirely appropriate beach holidays. Of course, in this regard, it was necessary to redesign this improvement and make it so that it was designed more for contemplative relaxation, and not for active beach recreation. But an area was specially designated for active recreation, which in the future, with the participation of the city budget, could be equipped for such active recreation for citizens,” noted Konstantin Shumov.

Let us remind you that the day before the project of the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral in Krasnoyarsk received a positive conclusion from the state examination. According to the author of the project, Alexander Bannikov, construction is planned to begin this spring. They intend to put the facility into operation by the 400th anniversary of Krasnoyarsk, in August 2028.
