Motyka spoke to journalists during the ministerial meeting of the International Energy Agency (IEA) in Paris. PAP asked about the technical limits of Polish aid to Ukraine, which is struggling with a deep energy crisis as a result of Russian shelling.

– When it comes to the power lines on our connection, we have the ability to use them to the maximum. Today we are talking about how to expand them (…) The energy itself, if intervention support is needed, is settled on the market. It's not like this is done free of charge, said Motyka.

As he noted, the priority remains to maintain the Ukrainian energy system, rebuild it quickly and “prevent it from collapsing.”

The head of the Ministry of Energy also announced that talks regarding a new energy bridge between Poland and Ukraine are being conducted “very intensively”. He added that Poland has invested significantly in the expansion of infrastructure, including the gas interconnector. As he pointed out, thanks to the cooperation of Gaz-System and the Ukrainian operator, gas transmission has reached the highest level in history.

At the beginning of February, against the background of massive Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy system, the transmission system operator Ukrenergo asked Poland for help. Then Warsaw provided support in electricity supplies.

At the end of January, Kiev and Warsaw agreed to increase the capacity of gas supplies from Poland to Ukraine. According to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Denys Shmyhal, this step is intended, among other things, to: aimed at stabilizing heat supplies to Ukrainian households. (PAP)
