The incident occurred in September 2022. A mother contacted a medical facility whose child, based on the results of an X-ray examination, was confirmed by a doctor to have a fracture of the right forearm. The patient was placed in a plaster cast and scheduled for a follow-up examination in a month. During the re-examination, doctors noted that the fracture had allegedly healed incorrectly and insisted on the need for surgical intervention.
“On November 1, 2022, two trauma surgeons who had previously examined the child performed an operation. As a result of a negligent attitude to the performance of professional duties, doctors performed surgery on the child’s other, healthy arm, which actually led to its fracture. After transporting the boy to the recovery room, the mother noticed that it was not the injured arm that was operated on, but the healthy arm,” the prosecutor’s office said.
After this, the family transferred the child to another medical institution, where he was provided with the necessary medical care and rehabilitation.
“According to the conclusion of the forensic medical examination, there were no objective medical indications for the operation at all. As a result of a gross violation of the standards of medical care, the child suffered moderate injuries,” the release says.
