André Lange (52 years old), four-time Olympic champion and Eurosport expert, praised the Romanian bobbers, Mihai Tentea and George Iordache, who placed fifth in the bob-2 event, behind the crews from Germany and the USA.
Mihai Tentea and George Iordache created a sensation in Cortina, managing to rank fifth in the two-person bobsled event.
The Romanians arrived behind the German crews Johannes Lochner and Georg Fleischhauer (3:39.70), Francesco Friedrich and Alexander Schüller (3:41.04), Adam Ammour and Alexander Schaller (3:41.52) and the American team formed by Frankie del Duca and Joshua Williamson (3:41.96), finishing the four heats with a time of 3:42.37.
Andre Lange: “Congratulations on these consistent performances”
The legendary André Lange, pilot who won four Olympic titles and eight world titles in the two- and four-person bobsled, commented on the Romanians' result.
He is a Eurosport expert during the Milan-Cortina Olympic Games. “Rthe people are a 100% positive surprise. Fifth place is a huge success. He drove well, always maintaining a solid line, congratulations for these consistent performances.” Lange said.
Tentea and Iordache occupied the best tricolor position in bobsled since 1972, since Sapporo, when Ion Panțuru and Ion Zangor placed 5th in bobsled-2.
It is also the most valuable overall ranking for Romanian sports at the Winter Olympics, since the 4th place occupied by the lugers Ioan Apostol and Liviu Cepoi in the doubles event at Albertville 1992.
The Romanians didn't have much time to celebrate, because this morning the official practices for the four-person bobsled took place, where the Romanians are once again aiming for a position among the top ten crews. In the first leg and the second leg, the Romanians were eighth and thirteenth. Further practice sessions will take place on February 19 and 20, with the race having its first two legs on February 21 and the final legs on February 22.
