Construction of the Cathedral on Strelka in Krasnoyarsk will begin this spring

The project of the Nativity of the Mother of God Cathedral in Krasnoyarsk received a positive conclusion from the state examination. This means that to start work you only need a construction permit from the administration. This was announced at a press conference in the Krasnoyarsk diocese.

According to architect Alexander Bannikov, the author of the cathedral project, construction is planned to begin this spring. The estimated construction period for the building is 18 months. They intend to put the facility into operation by the 400th anniversary of Krasnoyarsk, in August 2028.

“The experience of similar large projects in Khabarovsk, Vladivostok, Kaliningrad and other cities allows us to be confident that we will build the cathedral within this time frame. We are ready to start construction; we have all the documents to apply to the administration for permission. We should definitely receive it in March,” Bannikov explained.

To meet the deadline, some changes were made to the project. So, it was decided to finish the facade with granite – the original version with plaster would have taken too much time.

We also paid attention to protection from flooding, since the cathedral will be located on the Yenisei embankment. The architects calculated the water level during a flood, which, according to statistics, happens once every 100 years, added the height of the wind wave and a margin of half a meter – the “zero” of the building will be at this safe level. The underground part where it will be located parking for 96 spaceswill be protected by double waterproofing.

The amount of 4 billion rubles previously announced for the construction of the cathedral on Strelka is not final and may decrease. According to the architect, the final estimate greatly depends on the choice of finishing materials.

In addition, some of the work is performed by partners free of charge. For example, one of the construction companies, together with other organizations, completed the design documentation at their own expense.

“We count on the input of trustees and concerned citizens. Therefore, the final price will be approximately in this area [4 млрд]maybe a little less,” summed up the architect.

Let us remind you that the cathedral will be located on Strelka north of the small wooden church currently under construction, opposite the Philharmonic. It will be a copy of the cathedral of the architect Konstantin Ton, which was blown up in 1936, which was located on the site of the current regional government building. The total capacity of the complex will be about 3,000 people.
