“green architecture” is being developed in Krasnoyarsk / Society news of Krasnoyarsk and the Krasnoyarsk Territory / Newslab.Ru

The concept of “green architecture” with vertical gardens and green roofs is confidently conquering the world, becoming a symbol of environmentally friendly and aesthetic urbanism.
But will this seemingly heat-loving trend take root in Krasnoyarsk, with its sharply continental climate, frosts below −40°C, powerful temperature changes and short but sometimes hot summers? So far, there are only a few bold and striking examples in the urban environment, but they exist, proving that the impossible is possible.
One of the first and most famous experiments was the living wall in the modern business center on Vzlyotka – this is a complex phyto-panel of shade-tolerant and hardy indoor plants, creating the amazing effect of a cool natural oasis inside glass and concrete walls.
The implementation of such projects requires not only creative designers and agronomists, but also modern technological solutions, high-quality materials and reliable suppliers of living greenery.
Here, specialized digital platforms can become indispensable assistants, for example, the hybrid marketplace https://rus-buket.ru/krasnoyarsk, which effectively brings together suppliers of plants, substrates, automatic watering systems and phytodesigners from all over the country on one platform.
The main enemy of outdoor vertical gardens in Siberian conditions is not so much severe frost as extreme temperature changes between day and night, as well as drying icy winds. The root system of plants, enclosed in thin modules on the wall, can completely freeze out without additional protection.
The key solution is the use of innovative frost-resistant substrates with increased thermal insulation, the design of a closed system of autonomous drip irrigation with a heating function during the cold period and, most importantly, a careful, scientifically based selection of the plant assortment itself.
Priority is given to native and acclimatized species: various mosses, creeping forms of conifers, ground cover sedums, saxifrage and bergenia.
Greening roofs in Siberia is an even more complex engineering task, requiring careful calculation and strengthening of load-bearing structures, laying a multi-layer “pie” with powerful waterproofing, thermal insulation and drainage capable of removing melt water. However, despite all the objective difficulties, interest in modern phytodesign and greening of the urban environment in Krasnoyarsk is steadily growing both from business and from the municipality.
Experienced landscape architects and dendrologists see great potential in creating “winter” vertical compositions with evergreen and decorative bark species. Such projects have not only an aesthetic, but also an important practical function: they improve the microclimate, naturally humidify and purify the air, reduce noise and dust levels, which is especially important for a large industrial center.
For now, these are expensive, almost artistic experiments that require special care. But with the development of adapted technologies, cheaper materials and the appearance of local specialists with Siberian experience on the market, “vertical gardening” has every chance of ceasing to be an outlandish exotic and becoming an organic part of the modern, smart and humane appearance of the Siberian metropolis.
This will be clear proof that even in the harshest climate, a harmonious, technologically advanced and beautiful coexistence of urbanism and wildlife is possible.
