New plans for PKP. Car washes and accommodation – the company shows its strategy

PKP may launch a self-service car wash service on a pilot basis in 2027, Polish State Railways informed PAP, noting that the project is at an early stage of analysis. In addition, Wars is to expand its operations to include hotel services, and the first such facility is to be in Warsaw.


Last week, the strategy of the PKP Group and Polskie Koleje Państwowe SA for 2026-2030 was published. It states, among other things, that the Group plans to develop new services such as car washes.
“PKP SA, under the PKP Mobility sub-brand, is analyzing various directions of development of its properties in cooperation with external partners. One of the areas considered is development of new services for passengers and station users, such as the possibility of launching self-service car washes on selected properties PKP companies, especially those located in city centers,” the company said in response to PAP's questions.
She emphasized that currently the project is at an early stage of analysis. “In the event of positive results, possible pilot implementations in selected locations could be implemented no earlier than in 2027,” it was noted. It was added that the services under consideration should include pro-ecological solutions; in the case of car washes, the analysis includes, among others: use of renewable energy sources.
The strategy also included: expansion of Warsa's activities to include hotel and conference services. The company will also develop stationary catering. In the information provided to PAP, PKP SA explained that Warsa's entry into the area of hotel services “is a natural complement to the company's resources and competences.”
“The company plans to start operating as a hotel operator in a well-located place in the center of Warsaw. Additionally, it is developing as a supplier of vending machines and catering services and runs a chain of restaurants in Warsaw. Cleaning services, washing rolling stock, specialized cleaning of seats and upholstery of all classes of trains also account for an increasing share in WARS SA's revenues,” PKP reported.
They emphasized that in the coming years Wars will further diversify its activities and develop its services.
Polskie Koleje Państwowe SA is the parent company of the PKP Group, which has been operating as a holding company since 2022. PKP SA is one of the largest real estate managers in Poland – land, buildings, structures and residential premises. The assets of PKP SA include both facilities performing functions related to rail transport and typical commercial properties.
PKP Mobility is a brand created by PKP SA, which offers additional services, such as parking lots and electric vehicle charging stations.
Wars is a company that has been operating on the passenger transport market since 1948. It currently operates 20 Pendolino trains, 35 restaurant cars, 82 bar cars and 42 sleeper cars. The State Treasury holds 49.98 percent. shares of Wars; the remaining 50.02 percent belongs to PKP Intercity. (PAP)
