Josep Martinez (27 years old), the backup goalkeeper from Interwas involved in a serious road accident: the footballer fatally hit an 81-year-old man in a wheelchair with his car.
The accident took place in a residential area in Fenegro, a municipality in Como, near the Appiano Gentile training center of Inter. Following the tragic event, Cristi Chivu canceled the press conference prior to the match with Fiorentina in the #9 Serie A match.

The Italian press announces that despite the prompt interventions of the ambulance doctors, the 81-year-old man in a wheelchair was declared dead on the spot.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, a preliminary reconstruction by the police shows that the 81-year-old man in a wheelchair was hurt, suddenly entered the traffic lane and cut the face of Josep Martinez, who could no longer avoid him. The goalkeeper is in a state of shock after the tragic event.
The authorities have started an investigation to clarify the causes of the accident.
The conference of the Romanian coach Cristi Chivu, which prefaced the match with Fiorentina, was scheduled at 15:00, Romanian time.
Who is Josep Martinez, Inter's reserve goalkeeper
Josep Martinez started football at the Barcelona academy. After the experience at La Masia, he made his professional debut at Las Palmas in 2019. Later, he also played for RB Leipzig and Genoa, and in 2024 he arrived at Inter.
From 2024 until now, he played only 12 matches for Inter, of which 2 after the arrival of Cristi Chivu in command of the Nerazzurri. In the two matches of 2025 he conceded a goal and kept a clean sheet in one of them.
