Nicolas Cage will appear in his first leading role in a TV series when “Spider-Noir” premieres in May, according to Sony and Prime Video, reported by Reuters.

The series is a reimagining of the superhero Spider-Man, set in New York City during the Great Depression, and will premiere on May 27.

In the teasers released Thursday (one in black-and-white and one in “true color,” Cage is seen using his web-slinging skills as he plays Ben Reilly, a private investigator who confronts his past after a personal tragedy.

The cast also includes actors such as Lamorne Morris known for the series “New Girl” or Li Jun Li who starred in the Oscar-nominated film “Sinners”.

Viewers will be able to watch “Spider-Noir” in two modes, in “true black and white” and “true color,” depending on their preference.

Sony previously introduced an animated version of the Spider-Noir character, voiced by Cage, in the 2018 Oscar-winning film “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” which explores numerous Spider-Men from different universes.

“Spider-Noir” is the first live-action series in the Spider-Verse and gives Amazon a piece of the Marvel “pie”.

In January, Netflix and Sony Pictures Entertainment struck a new deal that will bring movies like “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse” to the streaming giant's customers around the world after they hit theaters.

Under the multi-year deal, Netflix becomes the exclusive streaming destination for Sony Pictures movies after their theatrical and video-on-demand releases for the first 18 months, after which they will go to Disney.
