Carney referred in the House of Commons to Tuesday's events at Tumbler Ridge, where a young woman shot nine people, injured 27, and then committed suicide. The violence has left Canadians “in shock,” Carney said. He recalled similar events in the past. – Every time it tears us apart, every time it shows who we are, said the Prime Minister.

The events at Tumbler Ridge are among the most tragic in Canadian schools, where shootings are rare. This is the 13th such event since 1975. The highest number of fatal shootings occurred in 1989 at the Polytechnic University of Montreal, where the perpetrator killed 14 people and injured 13, according to statistics published in the media.
