The European aviation safety regulator on Thursday advised European Union airlines to avoid Iran's airspace until March 31, extending an earlier warning, according to Reuters.
“The presence and possible use of a wide range of weapons and air defense systems, combined with unpredictable reactions of state authorities, creates a high risk for civil flights operating at all altitudes and flight levels,” the European Union Aviation Safety Agency said in a news bulletin.
Major powers and states in the region fear that a breakdown in negotiations between Iran and the United States could trigger a conflict that would spread throughout the oil-producing region.
Iran has vowed a tough response to any attack and has warned Gulf Arab countries that host US bases that they could become targets if they were involved in an offensive.
