Olympique Marseille, the team in 4th place in Ligue 1, issued a statement on the night of February 10-11 in which they announced the parting with the technician Roberto De Zerbi.
In the last match at the command of OM, the group from Marseille lost drastically to the rival PSG in the championship, score 5-0, and this failure was fatal for the technician. Roberto De Zerbi has been Marseille's coach since the summer of 2024 and has failed to win any trophies.
The press release from Olympique Marseille: “We decided by mutual agreement to end the collaboration”
“Olympique de Marseille and Roberto De Zerbi, the coach of the first team, have mutually decided to end the collaboration.
Following discussions between all the people in the club's management – the owner, the president, the sports director and the coach – a change at the helm of the first team was decided.
This was a difficult collective decision, taken after careful consideration, in the best interests of the club to meet the sporting challenges of the end of the season.
Olympique de Marseille would like to thank Roberto De Zerbi for his dedication, commitment, professionalism and seriousness, which were particularly evident in the team's second place finish in the 2024-2025 season.
We wish him all the best in his career”, announced those from Marseille in the official statement.
Roberto De Zerbi had been appointed at Marseille in the summer of 2024. The other teams he coached in his career were Darfo Boario, Foggia, Palermo, Benevento, Sassuolo, Shakhtar and Brighton. He has only one trophy in the cabin as a coach: the Ukrainian Super Cup won in the 2021-2022 season.
As a player, he played for several teams in Italy such as AC Milan, Padova, Monza, Como, Catania, Brescia or Napoli, but for the public in Romania he is known especially for the time he spent at CFR Cluj. At the team from Gruia, he has 30 matches, 8 goals, 6 decisive assists, two championship titles and a Romanian Cup.
