Filipe Coelho (45 years old), the coach of the University of Craiova, spoke to the Portuguese press about the situation the Super League team is going through.

The Lusitanian pointed out that he dreams of bringing the title to Bănie, but also the fact that he does not rule out a return to Portugal, but in the first league.

Filipe Coelho: “We dream of winning the title”

Arriving at the University of Craiova in the fall of 2025, Filipe Coelho spoke in the Portuguese press about the time he spends in Romania. He addressed several topics, including the fight for the title, the dramatic elimination from the Conference League, but also his future in Bănie.

“We dream of winning the title! We are competing against historic teams with a lot of quality, so we have to work hard and be aware that there is still a long way to go“, said Coelho, according to the publication record.pt.

He also spoke about the dramatic elimination from the Conference League, when they lost in extra time against the Greeks from AEK Athens, score 2-3. The team coached by the Portuguese finished in 25th place, one below the bottom that would have guaranteed a place in the round of 16 qualification play-off.

I think we didn't fail in Europe. It was a goal to advance to the next stage, but we ended up falling short. However, we showed quality and performed well. The elimination comes with the positive aspect of having fewer games, which allows us more time to work and prepare for the championship games,” he continued

Filipe Coelho, about his future on the bench of the University of Craiova:

The Portuguese also spoke about a possible return to football in Portugal. He stated that the situation is good in Craiova, only that in football things can change quickly. He does not rule out a possible return to his native country, but in the first league.

For now, things are going well, but in football everything changes quickly. I've had the opportunity to coach in all the Portuguese divisions except the first…we'll see”, concluded Coelho, according to the aforementioned source.

In Portugal, Filipe Coelho coached teams such as Vilafranquense, Leixoes or Casa Pia, teams that played in the lower leagues of the country.
