“The walls were covered with ice and steam was coming out of the mouth.” Russians from this region have been living in frozen houses for a second week. “They fight for survival” [REPORTAŻ]

According to the governor of the Irkutsk region, Igor Kobzev, four heat sources stopped working as a result of the failure.

Initially, the authorities introduced a state of heightened alert. However, a day later, on January 31, a local state of emergency was declared in Bodajbo. Representatives of regional authorities, emergency services, and the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Vyacheslav Fedoseyenko, along with operational groups arrived in the city.

The Investigative Committee initiated criminal proceedings under articles relating to the provision of services that did not meet safety requirements and failure to fulfill official duties. Investigators officially admitted that the situation is a threat to the lives and health of residents: people are left without water and there is a piercing cold in the houses.
