“This is not a fairy tale ending. It's not a picture book story. This is lifeLindsey Vonn wrote in a lengthy Instagram post from her hospital bed, the day after the horrific fall that kept the world in suspense after the athlete was airlifted from the runway.
“Yesterday, my Olympic dream did not end as I had dreamed“, she also wrote on social media. Then she added: “It wasn't the end of a storybook or a fairy tale, it was simply life. I dared to dream and worked hard to achieve it. In alpine skiing, the difference between a strategic line and a catastrophic injury can be as little as five centimeters. I was just two inches too tight on my line when my right arm caught in the gate, twisting me and causing me to fall. My previous cruciate ligament tear and past injuries have nothing to do with my current accident.”
The result is grim: “I suffered a complex tibia fracture which is currently stable but will require several surgeries to properly repairStill, even after the surgery, Vonn refuses to use the word regret about the sad event: “Despite the intense physical pain it caused me, I have no regrets.”
