PSD leader, virulent attack on Ilie Bolojan, whom he accuses of “taking the Government as an individual” / “If you don't like this coalition, look for another coalition with USR”

The leader of the PSD senators, Daniel Zamfir, claimed, on Monday, in plenary, during the debate of the simple motion regarding Romania's position regarding the EU-Mercosur Agreement, that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan “takes unilateral decisions”, telling him that, if he does not respect his partners, he should look for “another coalition” with those from the USR.

The senator also accused Bolojan that “he has the impression that it is his Government” and that he acts as “Vode per Loboda as he pleases”.

The leader of the PSD senators emphasized that the mandate given by the Romanian Government for the trade agreement with the countries of the South American bloc Mercosur, for a vote that commits Romania for 10 years, was “a mandate without a mandate, in fact.” “Without a discussion, at least in the coalition. Without a study to show what are the interests and especially the objectives of Romania. The public assumption of the Prime Minister for this vote without a mandate shows Mrs. Ţoiu (Minister of Foreign Affairs, no) as just a tool,” added the social-democratic politician.

Daniel Zamfir also said that, in general, we used to call the Governments of Romania after the name of the prime minister, in order to distinguish them from each other, but he emphasized that it is the Government of Romania, not the one who leads it, temporarily.

Bolojan, accused of taking the government “on an individual basis”

“However, it is becoming increasingly clear that the Prime Minister has the impression that it is his Government. He was praised so much at one point, that he has the impression that it is up to him to decide on his own, without consulting and without respecting those around him. In the case of Mercosur, he made the decision on a natural person. He made the Government on a natural person. He disregarded the specialized objections of the Minister of Agriculture and violated the procedure for approving the mandate to represent of Romania. He violated the coalition agreement and made unilateral decisions, without even seeking consensus with the other partners,” claimed Zamfir, quoted by News.ro.

The senator also accused the prime minister of “violating, without caring, the law and the Constitution which obliges him to consult the Parliament in such an important matter”.

“And even if the Parliament's role is consultative, the consultation procedure was mandatory. That's what the law provides. He took everything on a natural person, without consultations in Parliament, without consultations in the coalition, without consultations with the citizens. More than that, amazingly, the Prime Minister conveyed even to his own PNL MPs that he doesn't need them to support his measures, that he doesn't ask them for that,” Zamfir said.

He continued: “And then, Mr. Prime Minister, in whose name do you govern, what do you think entitles you to act as Vodă via Loboda as you please? In such conditions, as the leader of the PSD group in the Senate, I convey to the individual, Ilie Bolojan, former Prime Minister, one very clear thing: If you do not like this coalition, if you do not respect the Parliament that will invest, if you do not respect your partners in the coalition, then Mr. prime minister, look for another coalition together with those from USR”.

The social-democratic senator also said that those from the PSD cannot answer politically for all the decisions that the prime minister takes on his own, “in contempt of the parties that invested him” and especially “in contempt” of the citizens who voted for the current parliamentary majority.

“And let one more thing be clear, Mr. Prime Minister, with all due respect, when you make a final decision, do not expect our support. Regarding Mercosur, PSD has already voted where it matters and where it has effects. The vote in the European Parliament of the 10 PSD MEPs decisively tipped the balance in favor of Romanian farmers,” said Daniel Zamfir at the end of his speech.

The senators rejected, on Monday, the simple motion regarding the Mercosur Agreement.

There were 38 votes for, 52 against and 25 abstentions. The vote was secret, electronic.

The Senate plenary debated on Monday the simple motion against the way Romania is represented in the EU-Mercosur Agreement. The text of the motion was read by AUR senator Nicolae Vlahu.

Entitled “The EU – Mercosur Agreement: how Romania engages in a major strategic agreement through a clandestine mandate, without analysis and against its own interests”, the motion was initiated by 47 opposition senators (28 AUR, 13 PACE – First Romania and six non-affiliated).

The Senate plenary debates, on Monday, two more simple motions of the Opposition – against the Minister of Defense, Radu Miruță, and the interim Minister of Education, Ilie Bolojan.
