In the Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve, artificial food fields were created for roe deer in winter (video)

Specialists from the Sayano-Shushensky Nature Reserve and the Shushensky Bor National Park have created special feeding fields for roe deer in the winter.

The reserve's press service reported that on the territory Perovsky cluster of the Shushensky Bor national park are located relatively modest volumes of natural food supply. In winter, the shortage of food resources becomes especially acute. Severe frosts and deep snow cover make it difficult for ungulates to access pasture.

As a result, to maintain the Siberian roe deer population in the national park, a set of biotechnical measures are carried out annually, including the organization of feeding fields. In the spring and early summer of 2025, three fodder fields were sown with different crops on the territory of the cluster, including sunflower and oats. Feeding in winter helps animals survive difficult days and welcome the spring sun.

“Observations indicate that roe deer spend almost the entire winter in food fields, setting up temporary resting areas nearby,”noted the reserve's specialists.

Artificial feeding fields attract not only roe deer; most species of the park's fauna are recorded on them.
