The leading soloist of the Mariinsky Theater, 39-year-old Vladimir Shklyarov, has died – this information is confirmed by his colleague, ballerina Irina Bartnovskaya.
The reasons for what happened have not yet been announced; the dancer wrote that it was a “terrible tragedy” and asked to respect the memory of Shklyarov.
Vladimir joined the Mariinsky troupe 11 years ago and during this time he earned the highest professional status of a ballet soloist, and four years ago he received the title of Honored Artist of Russia. Shklyarov performed in The Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, and Swan Lake.
