Iran “ready” for an agreement with the US. There will be another round of talks

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi said on Saturday that another round of Iran-US negotiations would take place “soon.” He added that Tehran “is ready” to conclude an agreement with Washington, which – as he said – will calm the situation around Iran's nuclear program.

Aragchi said in an interview with Al Jazeera that he had already agreed with the United States to resume negotiations, which began on Friday in the Omani capital, Muscat. As he noted, the date of the next round of negotiations is still open.

“Both we and Washington believe that they should take place soon,” Aragchi emphasized. He added that uranium enrichment is Iran's “inalienable right” and “must continue.”

The head of Iranian diplomacy also said that although Friday's talks with the US delegation in Oman were of an “indirect” nature, “there was a chance to shake hands with the American delegation.”

Aragchi has warned once again in recent weeks that in the event of an attack by the US, Iran will respond by striking US bases in the Middle East region.

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that talks with Iran in Oman were going “very well” and Tehran was “very keen” to reach a deal with Washington.

The American side was represented in Muscat by the US President's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, while the Iranian delegation was led by Aragchi. The Omani Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr al-Busaidi, acted as an intermediary.

Last June, the dispute over Iran's nuclear program led to Israeli airstrikes on nuclear facilities in Iran. In response to this operation, Iranian aircraft fired on targets in Israel. The exchange of fire ended with the US Air Force bombing Iran's nuclear installations. (PAP)
