Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics: 29 Romanian athletes, 9 disciplines. The opening ceremony takes place tonight

There is very little left until the start of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games, where Romania will be represented by 29 athletes, registered in nine disciplines. Competitions begin before the official ceremony, but the opening is scheduled for February 6.

During more than two weeks, Italy will host the competitions dedicated to winter sports, and the Romanian delegation, consisting of 28 athletes and a reserve, together with the technical teams, will be accommodated in six Olympic Villages. The evolutions of the tricolors can be followed on TVR 1 and TVR Sport.

Cristi Chivu will carry the Olympic flame
For the first time at the Milan Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, there will be four opening ceremonies: the main ceremony in Milan, broadcast live internationally, and three secondary ceremonies, in Cortina, Livigno and Predazzo.
Romania designated the following athletes as flag bearers:
Milan: Julia Sauter (figure skating)
Livigno: Kata Mandel (snowboard) and Alexandru Ștefănescu (alpine skiing)
Predazzo: Daniela Toth (ski jumping) and Paul Pepene (cross-country skiing)
Curtain: Raluca Strămăturraru (sledge) and Mihai Tentea (bob)
The Olympic flame was also carried by Cristian Chivu, the coach of the Inter Milan football team.
The main opening ceremony will take place today, February 6, from 21:00 at the famous San Siro stadium in Milan, and the closing ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, February 22, from 21:00 at the Verona Arena.
The opening event will include performances by internationally renowned artists including Mariah Carey, Laura Pausini, Andrea Bocelli, actor and producer Pierfrancesco Favino and Italian actress Sabrina Impacciatore.
