On the day the treaty expired, US President Donald Trump spoke. He began his entry on the Truth Social website by praising the US army and appreciating his achievements. Donald Trump claimed that he had prevented nuclear wars from breaking out “around the world, including between Russia and Ukraine.”

In the second part of the entry, he referred to the New START treaty, which he described as a “failure to negotiate” and “grossly violated” agreement.
“Instead of extending NewSTART (a failed U.S. negotiated agreement that, apart from anything else, is in gross violation), we should task our nuclear experts with working on a new, improved and modernized treaty that will remain in force for many years to come,” it continues.
