By 2042, it is planned to build a nuclear power plant in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Deputy General Director for Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Solutions of the Rosatom State Corporation Andrey Nikipelov spoke about this at the round table “Domestic power engineering – a driver for the development of the country’s electric power industry” in the Federation Council.

IrkutskMedia news agency, citing TASS, reports that according to Nikipelov, by the designated date, nuclear energy will also appear in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), Chelyabinsk, Tomsk, Irkutsk regions, Khabarovsk and Primorsky territories. As noted in the presentation accompanying the general director’s report, in order to implement plans for the construction of nuclear power plants in Russia and abroad, Rosatom’s mechanical engineering division will need to double the production and supply of key equipment for the stations.

By 2042, the State Corporation will have to build 38 new nuclear power units of large, medium and low power using thermal and fast neutrons in Russia with a total installed capacity of about 30 GW.

Let us recall that Rosatom spoke about plans to build a nuclear power plant in the Krasnoyarsk Territory back in 2024. At that time, they intended to build a nuclear power plant in the Sharypovsky district, in the village of Kholmogorsky. However, later, following a public discussion, the station was excluded from the General Scheme for the Location of Electric Power Facilities until 2042.

The media wrote that the project was considered inappropriate, since the region has large reserves of coal as an energy source.
