Parliamentarians begin the first regular session of the year. The opposition is preparing simple motions against the ministers

The Senate and the Chamber of Deputies begin, on Monday, February 2, the first ordinary parliamentary session of the year. During this session, the governing coalition proposes to adopt the package regarding the reform of the local and central public administration.

According to the decisions published in the Official Gazette, the two Chambers were convened by the president of the Senate and the president of the Chamber of Deputies, respectively “pursuant to the provisions of article 66 paragraphs (1) and (3) of the Constitution of Romania, republished”as well as of art. 83 para. (1) of the Senate Regulation, respectively of art. 34 lit. a) from the Regulation of the Chamber of Deputies, writes Agerpres.

At the Chamber of Deputies, the meeting of the permanent Bureau, in the old composition, will take place on Monday, starting at 1:30 p.m., and from 4:00 p.m. the plenary session of the Chamber will meet. At the Senate, the plenary session will also meet from 16:00, and the Permanent Bureau from 12:00.

According to the procedures, on the first day of the parliamentary session, the members of the permanent Bureaus, namely the vice-presidents, secretaries and quaestors of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, will be elected in each chamber.

The presidents of the two Chambers, Mircea Abrudean and Sorin Grindeanu, were elected, after the constitution of the Parliament, for a four-year mandate.

According to the Regulations of the two Chambers, the election of the members of the permanent Bureaus is done at the proposal of the parliamentary groups, according to their weight, according to the political configuration of the respective forum and the negotiation of the leaders of the parliamentary groups.

The lists of proposed candidates will be fully submitted to the vote of the Chamber of Deputies, respectively the Senate, and will be approved by the open vote of the majority of parliamentarians present in each chamber.

The priorities of the coalition in this parliamentary session are the adoption of the package regarding the reform of the local and central public administration, economic recovery measures and the state budget law for 2026.

The opposition announced that it is preparing simple motions against the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Defense, but also of censure against the Government, as well as several legislative initiatives related to reducing state expenses and protecting citizens.
