Finely chopping onions for minced meat, soup or pies is a real test: your eyes water, your hands smell all day, and then it takes another hour to wash the blender. And if you need just a little, you don’t want to bother with technology at all.
In order not to endure flour and not to run for ready-made frozen food, you can chop onions easily and cleanly even without a knife. Experienced housewives have long been using a simple method with a regular grater.
How to chop onions without a knife and blender:
- Take a medium onion and peel it.
- Grate it on a fine grater directly over a bowl or frying pan.
- Movements should be fast and easy. The onion will turn into a homogeneous mass in 20-30 seconds.
- If you're concerned about the smell on your hands, hold the bulb with tongs or wrap the tip with a paper towel.
This onion is ideal for soups, sauces, fillings for pies, cutlets and vegetable stews. It is evenly distributed in the dish, does not produce bitterness and does not remain in large pieces.
For even less odor, you can slightly cool the onion before grating: 10 minutes in the refrigerator is enough.
This method is especially convenient when you need one or two onions. If the volume is large, of course, it is easier to use a blender. But for everyday cooking, a grater often comes in handy.
This life hack saves time, nerves and water on washing equipment. And the main thing is that you will no longer cry over the cutting board.
