The special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin for investments and economic cooperation, Kirill Dmitriev, has arrived in the US, where he is meeting with American officials in Florida on Saturday for a new round of talks, a source close to the negotiations told AFP, reports Agepres.
“The talks started early, at 08:00 a.m. East Coast time” of the US (13:00 GMT), this source said, without providing further details on the agenda of the talks and the composition of the delegations.
Previously, in a post on Istagram, Kirill Dmitriev – Putin's main negotiator in the talks with Donald Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of the American president, intended to lead to a negotiated solution to the conflict triggered by Russia in Ukraine – wrote: “Again” in Miami.
In early January, Dmitriev met with Trump's two emissaries on the sidelines of the Davos Economic Forum. He had traveled to Miami in late December for talks about Ukraine with American representatives.
This new meeting in Florida comes ahead of a possible second round of direct talks in Abu Dhabi between Russian, American and Ukrainian negotiators.
This round of talks could take place on Sunday, even though President Volodymyr Zelenskiy had mentioned this week the possibility of postponing it.
The first direct public talks between Ukrainians, Russians and Americans regarding Washington's plan to end the war in Ukraine took place last Friday and Saturday in the federal capital of the United Arab Emirates.
These talks, under American mediation, are proceeding extremely difficult, especially because of the territorial issue, with Russia insisting that Kiev cede to it the entire Donbas area (composed of the Lugansk and Donetsk regions) in eastern Ukraine, including the part of territory it does not control in the Donetsk region.
