Brushes are considered essential for creating flawless makeup, but they can become a source of irritation if not cleaned.
Bacteria live well in the remains of foundation, powder and sebum, which lead to inflammation. And the colors mixed on the pile distort the new makeup. Simple care will extend the life of your instruments and protect your skin.
How often should you wash your makeup brushes?
For daily use: For liquid texture brushes such as foundation or concealer, it is enough to clean the brushes once a week. For dry products, such as blush and eye shadow – once every 2 weeks.
For problem skin, you need to cleanse more often, about once every 3-4 days. It is advisable to wash the eyeliner and liquid eyeshadow brushes after each use.
To quickly change the shade of eyeshadow, use special cleansing wipes.
How to wash brushes
- Synthetic brushes: mild soap, body wash or dish soap.
- Natural brushes: baby shampoo or professional cleaner. Aggressive products will dry out and damage the pile.
- To disinfect after illness or a long break, wipe the pile with a cotton pad soaked in 70% alcohol.
How to wash your makeup brushes
- Wet the bristles under running warm water, holding the brush with the bristles down so that the water does not flow into the metal rim.
- Apply some cleanser directly to the bristles.
- Gently lather using circular motions over your palm or a special silicone mat.
- Rinse thoroughly until the water runs completely clear.
- Dry the brush with a paper towel, lightly squeezing the water in the direction of the bristles.
- Never dry brushes with the bristles facing up. Moisture flowing into the base will erode the glue and the brush will begin to break.
- Place them horizontally on the edge of the table so that the bristles hang slightly, or secure them with an elastic band on a hanger with the bristles facing down. No batteries or hair dryers – high temperatures will ruin the pile.
What not to do with makeup brushes
Do not soak entire brushes, do not rub or twist wet bristles, do not dry them vertically in a glass with the bristles facing up, do not store dirty and clean brushes together, and be sure to wash new brushes before first use.
So, with just 10 minutes a week of maintenance, your brushes will last for years, leaving every makeup look flawless and your skin clean.
