Jaqueline Cristian (27 years old, 35 WTA), number 2 favorite of the Transylvania Open, was left without an opponent in the first round of the competitionafter Camila Osorio (24 years old, 84 WTA) withdrew at the last moment.

Jaqueline Cristian, Romania's first “rocket”, came to Cluj-Napoca eager to win the Transylvania Open trophy. On Friday, January 30, the Romanian participated in the draw for the main draw of the tournament and found out her opponent in the first round.

After triumphing at a Challenger in Manila, Camila Osorio withdrew from the Transylvania Open

Jaqueline should have met Camila Osorio, player with whom he has dueled twice, both games being won by the world number 35. Meanwhile, the Colombian withdrew from the Transylvania Open at the last moment, so Cristian will play either an opponent from the qualifiers or a lucky loser.

After his elimination from the Australian Open, Osorio flew to Manila in the Philippines to compete in a Challenger tournament. The 24-year-old athlete had an excellent run in Asia and reached the final, where she met Donna Vekic (29, 72 WTA), another player who should have come to the Transylvania Open.

Osorio prevailed 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 after a match of two hours and 32 minutes to become the champion in Manila. In these conditions, from a logistical point of view, it was impossible for the world number 84 to reach Cluj-Napoca in time.

Therefore, like Vekic, Osorio made the decision to retire.

Cristian will therefore play in the first round of the Transylvania Open, with a player from the qualifiers or with a lucky loser. Then, in case of success, the 27-year-old athlete will compete in the “optimum” either with Tiantsoa Rakotomanga Rajaonah (20 years old, 118 WTA), or with a tennis player from the qualifications.
