Biogas and biomethane are gaining support. New National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management program for companies

The National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management (NFOŚiGW) announced that the recruitment of applications will last until April 30, 2026. The program budget was divided into two parts: PLN 200 million was allocated for the development of biomethane-producing installations, and PLN 100 million for biogas plants. Financial support will be provided both in the form of grants and loans, but in the “project finance” formula the co-financing will amount to 85%. eligible costs.

Money for construction and modernization
— Thanks to European Funds and national funds, we support investments that increase the efficiency of enterprises, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to changes in the national energy mix in favor of renewable energy sources – emphasized Józef Matysiak, deputy president of the management board of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, in the statement.
The program includes co-financing for the construction and modernization of renewable energy installations producing biomethane with connection to the gas network (excluding stand-alone biomethane storage facilities). Support also applies to the construction or expansion of installations generating electricity and/or heat from biogas, along with energy storage facilities and connections to the network.
Biogas and biomethane as elements of transformation
The announcement by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management noted that the produced biogas can be used in the production of electricity and heat, as well as as a raw material for the production of biomethane. The latter, as a biocomponent, can be used in the production of biofuels based on renewable energy sources.
Support for investments in biogas and biomethane is part of Poland's strategy for energy transformation. The program, financed by the European Funds and the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management, is intended to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and to increase the share of renewable energy sources in the national energy mix.
