Serious allegations about Microsoft founder Bill Gates are emerging in documents recently released by the US Department of Justice attributed to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
According to the documents, Epstein wrote in an email he sent himself in July 2013 that Bill Gates had had extramarital sex, The New York Times reports.
Epstein wrote the messages about Gates shortly after his attempt to broker a deal between Gates' foundation and JPMorgan Chase failed, depriving Epstein of what he had hoped would be an important source of income.
The Epstein files: What big names appear in the new batch of declassified documents
In one of Epstein's e-mails, written in the style of a diary entry, the convicted sex offender wrote that he helped Bill Gates acquire drugs “to deal with the consequences of having sex with Russian girls” and that he facilitated his encounters with married women.
In another email, Epstein criticized Gates for choosing to “ignore and abandon the friendship we developed” over six years. He accused Bill Gates of abandoning him to preserve his reputation. In one of the 2013 emails, Epstein also wrote that “Melinda and Bill were caught in a severe marital dispute.”
It is unclear whether Epstein ever sent these emails to Bill Gates.
The reaction from Bill Gates
Following the allegations, a representative for Bill Gates labeled the claims as “completely false”.
“These claims – coming from a liar – are absolutely absurd and completely false. The only thing these documents demonstrate is Epstein's frustration at not having an ongoing relationship with Gates and the lengths he would go to trap and defame him,” Bill Gates' representative said.
Previously, in a 2021 interview with CNN, Bill Gates called his relationship with the sex offender “a huge mistake.”
He also tried to play down the importance of his interactions with Epstein, saying he dined with Epstein several times in hopes of persuading him to donate to the Gates Foundation.
Gates' relationship with Epstein — which began around 2011, after Epstein was convicted of prostitution with a minor — was one of the factors that led his ex-wife, Melinda French Gates, to file for divorce.
