US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that he had asked Vladimir Putin to stop the bombing of Kiev and other Ukrainian cities for a week due to the cold wave. The American leader announced that Putin agreed to such a proposal.

“Because of the cold, the extreme cold – just like we're having – I personally asked President Putin not to shoot at Kiev and its cities and towns for a week,” Trump said during a cabinet meeting at the White House. – He agreed to do it. And I have to tell you, it was very nice. A lot of people said, “Don't waste your phone. You won't get it.” And he did it and we are very happy that he did it,” he added. He noted that Ukrainians “almost didn't believe it, but they were very happy about it because they have serious problems.”
Weather forecasts indicate that A cold wave from Russia will come to Ukraine in the coming days, and temperatures may drop to -28 degrees Celsius.
– It's not just ordinary cold, it's extremely cold, record cold, it's a whole lot of bad weather, the worst. (Ukrainians) said they had never experienced such cold, Trump said.
Trump did not explain when his conversation with Putin took place; the last one publicly reported was conducted in December. The president also expressed optimism about the possibility of a quick end to the war in Ukraine, which was also repeated by peacekeeping envoy Steve Witkoff, who was present at the meeting. The president's adviser said that “good things are happening” in the negotiations and great progress is being made.
– Last Sunday, we hosted five Russian generals in Abu Dhabi with Jared (Kushner) and Dan Driscoll, and we think we've made a lot of progress. Talks will continue in about a week, but a lot of good things are happening between the parties. We are discussing a land deal, Witkoff said.
Trump's envoy announced that “security protocols” for Ukraine are “mostly agreed,” as is an economic pact to rebuild that country.
